CYPRIOTS around the island yesterday made donations to the collection that began at 6am yesterday for the 33rd Christodoula March, with the slogan, “Become an ally of life - each contribution strengthens the fight against cancer”.

In total, 52 kiosks were set at key spots of all cities and big communities, which remained open until 7pm.

The Chairman of the House of Representatives, Marios Karoyian, on behalf of the House of Representatives donated a cheque to the Anti-Cancer Society and congratulated them for their efforts for the sensitisation of people and simultaneously for safeguarding the health of the Cypriot population.

Green Party Leader, George Perdikis, said that “the message of today is a message of humanity, in an effort to combat cancer… The environmental crisis influences the creation, the presence and the increased cases of cancer… The valiant effort from the volunteers is not enough, state care and planning is necessary, but unfortunately does not yet exist.”

The Christodoula March is an established charity event in Cyprus, in memory of Christodoula, a woman who died of cancer. The march has been taking place every April for the past 33 years, and it has become a symbol of fighting for all cancer patients and for everyone who knows somebody suffering from cancer.

All funds raised are used by the Cyprus Anti-Cancer Society for cancer patients' welfare programmes and medical treatment.
